Lights on for safety!

Fall has arrived and the days are getting shorter. With that in mind, remember to turn your driving lights on in the morning and make sure they are on at dusk. From the MTO Driver Handbook: “Defensive driving is based on three ideas: visibility, space and communication. Visibility is about seeing and being seen. At night and in weather conditions such as rain, snow or fog, you cannot see as far ahead, even with headlights. Slow down when driving at night, especially on unlit roads and whenever weather conditions reduce your visibility. Overdriving your headlights You are overdriving your headlights when you go so fast that your stopping distance is farther than you can see with your headlights. This is a dangerous thing to do, because you may not give yourself enough room to make a safe stop. Reflective road signs can mislead you as well, making you believe you can see farther than you really can. This may cause you to over-drive your headlights if you are not careful.” Its also the time of year when wildlife makes it way out of the woods onto our roads.  Be sure to keep an eye out for deer, raccoons, porcupines, and skunks – especially at dusk and the early morning hours when they are active.  Visit us in the office to pick up a pair of deer whistles for your car – free!
